I start
thinking a guitar with two things in mind:
playability and intonation. Weight, ergonomics, neck profile, fretboard radius, body contour, bevels concur to achieve playability. Frets, measures, nut, bridge, strings, building affect the intonation.  When I resolve these two aspects, I mind for sound richness and musical tone. The tone and the richness come from pickups and wood. Nowaday there are a lot of very good sounding pickups, allowing a conscious choose for every style and budget. BUT wood is still the basic and critical element in guitar building. Wood density, cut and orientation determine if and how your guitar will play. No doubt! |
